Alchemi
"Alchemi is an open source software framework that allows you to painlessly aggregate the computing power of networked machines into a virtual supercomputer (computational grid) and to develop applications to run on the grid. It has been designed with the primary goal of being easy to use without sacrificing power and flexibility. Alchemi includes: The runtime machinery (Windows executables) to construct computational grids; A .NET API and tools to develop .NET grid applications and grid-enable legacy applications."
Open source.
Platform(s): .Net.

cyBrain - Parallelized Data Manipulation Network
"cyBrain is a cross-platform, C framework to run complex calculations on a cluster of computers. The development is done on GNU/Linux systems and it was also tested on Solaris. The code is written platform independent and should compile on other platforms as well without big changes. Algorithms are implemented as plugins, there is for example an image plugin which contains functions to open, display and save images or other image related operations like brightness/contrast, color balance, edge detection, etc. These functions can be placed in a GUI (Graphical User Interface), linked with the mouse and the operations are immediately executed. If other computers are connected to the cyBrain network, the plugin can be distributed on those machines to gain more computing power. The networking stack of cyBrain supports IPv4 and IPv6 both as client and server, to reduce network load it can use IP multicasting to distribute high bandwith data like video streams. "

Ganglia
"Ganglia is a scalable distributed monitoring system for high-performance computing systems such as clusters and Grids. It is based on a hierarchical design targeted at federations of clusters. It leverages widely used technologies such as XML for data representation, XDR for compact, portable data transport, and RRDtool for data storage and visualization. It uses carefully engineered data structures and algorithms to achieve very low per-node overheads and high concurrency."

Globus Toolkit
"The open source Globus Toolkit is a fundamental enabling technology for the 'Grid,' letting people share computing power, databases, and other tools securely online across corporate, institutional, and geographic boundaries without sacrificing local autonomy. The toolkit includes software services and libraries for resource monitoring, discovery, and management, plus security and file management. In addition to being a central part of science and engineering projects that total nearly a half-billion dollars internationally, the Globus Toolkit is a substrate on which leading IT companies are building significant commercial Grid products.
"The toolkit includes software for security, information infrastructure, resource management, data management, communication, fault detection, and portability. It is packaged as a set of components that can be used either independently or together to develop applications."
Platform(s): Linux, Unix.

Grid File Replication Manager
"In a grid environment, it is often desirable to create remote, read-only copies (replicas) of files. Replication can be used to reduce access latency and improve data locality. Replica Location Service (RLS) is a system developed by the open source grid community to maintain and provide access to information about the physical locations of copies. Grid File Replication Manager builds on top of RLS to provide a Web-based tool for managing replicas on the grid." From IBM alphaWorks.

GridPort Toolkit
"The Grid Portal Toolkit (GridPort) is a collection of technologies designed to aid in the development of science portals on computational grids: user portals, applications interfaces, and education portals. GridPort leverages standard, portable technologies to provide information services that portals can access and incorporate." Open source.

Gridscape
"A tool that enables the rapid creation of interactive and dynamic testbed portals (without any programming effort). Gridscape primarily aims to provide a solution for those users who need to be able to create a grid testbed portal but do not necessarily have the time or resources to build a system of their own from scratch." QADPZ
"Q²ADPZ ['kwod "pi-'si] is an open source implementation of a system for distributed computing. The system allows the management/use of the computational power of idle computers in a network. The users of the system can send computing tasks to these computers to be executed, which can be in the form of a dynamic library, an executable program or any program which can be interpreted (Java, Perl, etc.). Platforms supported are Linux, Unix, Win32 and MacOS X.
"The system is a client-master-slave architecture, using message based communication. Messages between the components of the system are in XML format, and can optionaly be crypted for security reasons."
Open source.
Platform(s): Linux, Unix, Win32, OS X.
