Gateway DMP-200 digital audio player

Gateway

Price: $130
Rating: 4
Ease of use: Mainstream customers

Review:
There are two types of digital music players - ones you place on your desk to listen to while working, and ones you carry around with you when you're working out. This is the latter category, a very tiny device that can fit into your pocket and carry around with you when you're exercising.

The 128M bytes of storage space holds about two hours of music, long enough for a couple of workouts. If you get tired of the music on the drive, changing your music is easy enough - just pull the two halves of the player apart and a USB flash drive is revealed. Plug that part in to your computer, and then drop and drag new songs onto the device.

The player operates on one AAA battery, so you may need to replace the battery every once in a while (as opposed to recharging found on other devices). A cool feature of this player - you can turn off the player, then turn it back on and you'll be on the song you were listening to (in the exact same place) when you shut it off.

One downside - there's no expansion slot, so you're stuck with 128M bytes. But for using this as a workout player, you probably won't need more than the 2 hours of music.

The device also includes a digital voice recorder feature, and because it's a USB flash drive, you can store normal, regular and boring files (spreadsheets!) on the device as well. But what's the fun in that?
