Guttenberg would be impressed that for $100-- even less if you shop around -- you can set yourself up with a copier, flat-bed scanner and an ink jet printer that produces professional-quality color photographs.

This is the second all-in-one printer that I've tested, and it's even better than the first. What struck me as most impressive -- it's half the size and weight of the other all-in-one Lexmark. At 9 pounds, about 9.5 inches high and 22 inches long, it's almost portable.

The printer is quiet and fast; Lexmark says it can handle up to 14 pages per minute in draft mode.

Setup is simple and straighforward. And if you need help, there's a fair amount of troubleshooting documentation. Scanning is fast and easy, and the accompanying software lets you choose a resolution up to 600X1200 dpi, and can be saved in a variety of formats (such as a PDF or a JPEG). The scanner bed also operates as a stand-alone copier that is simple to use.

This is a great little multifunctional printer that would be a great gift for someone who has limited space -- and need -- for separate office components, such as a student or home-office worker. I'm not sure how it would hold up to heavy usage in a large office, but the printer comes with a one-year warranty so it's worth giving it a try.
