Review:
This little handheld unit tells you exactly where you are and where you're headed with a very crisp color screen. For GPS enthusiasts, SporTrack Color is packed with features including mapping, direction, speed and more. (It's a great way to ensure you're speedometer is reading properly.) It can save up to 500 locations in internal memory. The device can be used as a stand-alone or plugged into a laptop for use with mapping software. As a stand-alone device, the SporTrack cannot give you turn-by-turn directions to a location. For point-to-point travel, distances provided are 'as the crow flies,' so if you're in a plane, you're fine. Also, only major roadways, airports, rail lines and rivers are shown on the map - your local side street won't show up on the screen. The backlit screen is great for nighttime use.
One minus is the power and backlighting button is the same key, which makes it easy to accidentally turn the device off. With 14 hours of battery life (two AA), make sure you have spares for those long trips. SporTrack uses GPS and the FAA's WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) for navigation and is said to be accurate to about 7 meters vertically and horizontally.
