NEC MultiSync LCD1765 monitor
NECPrice: $549.99
Rating: 2
Ease of use: Mainstream customers
Review:
The NEC MultiSync LCD1765 is a sleek-looking flat-panel monitor, at 17 inches it's big enough to handle all of your computing needs, whether it's playing a game, or working on word processing and spreadsheets.
Techincal specs -- the device weighs about 13 pounds, has a 400:1 contrast ratio, and 16ms of response time. All of that for about $550.
We had some issues with the monitor during our testing, which cause us to be hesitant on recommending it. First, you have to lay the monitor on its screen in order to adjust the back base part. Basically the monitor comes totally flat, and the height adjustment and base are squished underneath. When we pulled up on the base to adjust the height, we think we may have accidentally scratched the glass protecting the monitor. I suppose that's better than scratching the display itself, but we think there should be a better way to set up the height and base of the monitor (in fact, we have seen better methods). Furthremore, if we changed our mind on the height adjustment and wanted to try to re-adjust, we couldn't do so without putting the monitor back on its screen, because the adjustments only went one way.
Additionally, a menu kept popping up asking us to change the resolution to 1,280 by 1,024, despite a piece of paper included with the instructions that said 'For Optimal Performance, the NEC MultiSync LCD monitor should be setup for 1,024 x 768 @60Hz.' It was very confusing -- do we believe the piece of paper or the pop-up box on the screen?
Another thing we didn't particularly like was the color, brightness, etc. adjustment buttons were on the side of the display, which made it difficult if we wanted to make any color, contrast or brightness adjustments.
