Vectron Ultralite UFO

Science Tech

Price: $39.95
Rating: 4
Ease of use: So Easy, Grandma can use

Review:
If you're looking for a gift for a younger, future network manager (between 7 and 12), then the Vectron Ultralite is worth a look.

We feel kind of nostalgic, having tested the first version of the Vectron UFO a few years ago. What a difference a few years makes. We had a tough time flying the original UFO, so some aerodynamic improvements have been made, and we got much more pleasure about flying this UFO around.

The device comes with a remote control trigger that helps fly the device (well, hover, really). Once it's powered up, you press the trigger and the UFO begins to float upwards. The device flies via infrared, so aiming the trigger control at the top of the UFO gets the best results. If the UFO flies higher than your height, aiming the trigger at the ceiling to get the 'bounce down' effect will work. It's tough to do that outside, however.

The ability to hover, and go up and down, is easy to control after a few practice runs. The next step would be a way to figure out how to move the UFO horizontally, I suppose that will be the next version that we get in a few years.
