Burnout 2 - Point of Impact
Acclaim EntertainmentPrice: $39.99
Coolness score: Really fun game, has some lasting power
Review:
At first glance, Burnout 2 - Point Of Impact may look like any other racing game, that is until you start playing. Burnout 2 does follow the standard 'win a race, unlock a course or car' formula found in other racing games, but in order to win you must drive recklessly at high speeds on busy streets, sometimes against the flow of traffic, or through intersections. Successful driving is awarded with points and a full boost meter to help propel you to even faster speeds. Failure results in what really makes this game stand out, spectacular crashes. Cars and parts fly everywhere, trailer trucks jackknife, and buses roll over, causing all sorts of damage.
If you like crashes without the hassle of a race, then you're in luck, Burnout 2 offers a 'crash mode.' The object of Crash is self-explanatory, crash you car into traffic, and cause as much insurance damage you can. I'm not sure what this says about me, but this can be very addicting, as you watch vehicles fly all over the place in slow motion and an overhead view from a helicopter surveys the damage once it is over.
The graphics are extremely detailed and really add to the game. The controls are crisp and cars all handle differently. Burnout 2 - Point Of Impact will keep you glued to your seat, and is the most fun you will ever have crashing a car.
