SwapDrive has rolled out an online back-up and recovery service that lets teleworkers automatically save files to an Internet drive, protecting them from deletion or damage. The software encrypts data for transfer and compresses it into ZIP format if necessary. A Web browser-based product, SDBackup lets you back up selected files on a scheduled basis and runs in the background without interrupting your work. Part of SwapDrive's Corporate Web product, SDBackup is available for $50 to $200 per gigabyte, per month.

ShareWave announced it will begin offering royalty-free licenses of Whitecap, its proprietary multimedia enhanced version of 802.11b, to developers of 802.11e home network equipment, expected to reach stores next year. 802.11e adds multimedia and quality of service for entertainment applications. ShareWave hopes free licensing will spur consumer electronics companies to build 802.11e into set-top boxes, residential gateways, video recorders, Web pads, and audio and video jukeboxes.
