  • 3Com announced today OfficeConnect Cable/DSL Secure Gateway for small businesses. The device connects to a DSL or cable modem and contains an integrated switch with four 10/100M bit/sec Ethernet LAN ports. Security includes network address translation, and a stateful packet inspection firewall. VPN support includes Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol and IP Security passthrough, PPTP tunnel termination and IPSec tunnel generation and termination for up to 10 simultaneous connections. The gateway will cost $350 and be available next month.

  • Connected today announced Connected TLM for Small Business Service. Similar to the enterprise offering Connected TLM 6.1, the new product includes the ability to back up and retrieve files and applications on individual PCs; a self-healing feature that cures application, registry and system configuration problems; and iRoam, for accessing PC data stored on the secure Connected Web site via a Web browser. Pricing starts at $17.95 per month for five users.\

  • Philips will use Intellon’s HomePlug-compliant chipset in its upcoming Wi-Fi wireless to power line bridge, the company announced recently. Developed for its original equipment manufacturer partners, Philips says the bridge will transfer data between a home’s power line network and wireless devices using 802.11b. It lets power line technology serve as the home’s network backbone while providing wireless access to PCs throughout the home.

  • BellSouth recently unveiled home network products and support for its FastAccess DSL customers. For $10 per month per household, FastAccess HomeNetworking Service provides a 2Wire HomePortal residential gateway, which includes a DSL modem, router, and stateful packet inspection firewall, HomePNA (home phone line network) adapters, and 24-7 technical support. The hardware is self-installed. The gateway costs $149, and the adapters cost $39 per PC.
