Sybase, Actional to link SAP and Web applications

By Peter Sayer
IDG News Service, 11/27/00

Sybase and Actional Monday said they are going to work together to combine SAP R/3 and non-SAP applications.

Sybase and Actional will collaborate to enable businesses to link Web applications running on Sybase's EAServer with existing back-office applications running on SAP AG's SAP R/3 platform using Actional's Control Broker software, the two companies said in a joint statement. This will enable their customers to control existing business systems from any connection to the enterprise network.

Actional was previously known as Visual Edge Software.

In a separate announcement, Sybase announced that its EAServer software had recently received Java 2 Enterprise Edition certification from Sun Microsystems.

Sybase, based in Emeryville, Calif., is at http://www.sybase.com/. Actional, in Mountain View, Calif., is at http://www.actional.com/.
