3Com Corp. inked a $500 million deal yesterday with USA Global Link, Inc., an Internet telephony service provider, for network infrastructure equipment.

3Com will engineer, furnish and install 500 Total Control VOIP (voice over IP) access servers into USA Global Link's network over the next three years. The network rollout will begin in Brazil, Germany, the Netherlands, Japan, the U.S., Switzerland and Hong Kong.

USA Global Link's Global InterNetwork has been under construction since last spring. The company is offering discounted international long-distance, international callback, phone-to-phone IP telephony services.

The Global InterNetwork will eventually expand to 1,000 points of presence in metropolitan areas around the world, with an estimated network investment of $1.2 billion, according to USA Global Link.
