Las Vegas - Bay Networks Inc. yesterday introduced a Directory Enabled Provisioning capability that allows network administrators to make directory changes that are pushed out to all devices on a virtual private network through extranet switches.
Bay also is announcing in anticipation of this week's Networld+Interop show in Las Vegas a new switch, the Extranet Switch 1000, as well as Extranet Switch Software Version 1.5. The switch enables remote access to a company's extranet or virtual private network via the Internet.
The Extranet Switch 1000 is targeted at small to medium-size companies with hundreds of employees and designed for up to 50 simultaneous users. Bay already offers the Extranet Switch 2000 for 1000 or more employees and up to 200 simultaneous users and the Extranet Switch 4000 for tens of thousands of users and up to 2,000 simultaneous users.
The Extranet Switch 1000, priced at $7,000, will ship worldwide in mid- to late-June. It ships with a free unlimited user-license of the Bay Networks Extranet Access client.
Meanwhile, Extranet Switch Software Version 1.5 features the addition of interoperability with the L2 Tunneling Protocol and Novell Inc.'s IPX and Netware Directory, a fault tolerant client, advanced Java-based monitoring and reporting, and a T-3 WAN card for scalability.
The new software also doubles performance in the Extranet Switch 4000 from 20M-bits per second to 50M-bps.
Bay also today announced the Accelar 1050 routing switch which extends application intelligence to the installed base of Layer 2 edge switches, as well as the Multi Protocol Over ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) software for the Centillion LAN-ATM family, and new Ethernet and Token-Ring switching modules.
The Accelar 1050 routing switch provides 10/100/1000 Ethernet connectivity in a standalone fixed-configuration form for desktop switch aggregation, servers and power users. It should begin shipping in July for $7,495. A second model, the Accelar 1051 routing switch, will include a LinkSafe redundant physical connection for the 1000Base-SX connection. The Accelar 1051 is expected to begin shipping in July for $8,250.
Bay also introduced broadband business services to customers for Virtual Private Networks and Extranets, Voice/Fax over IP, Directory/Policy Services, Progressive Traffic Management and Security.
