Larscom, Inc. is entering the frame relay access market with intelligent frame relay access devices that can keep track of whether carriers are meeting service-level agreements (SLA).
Larscom's FramePath 64 DSU and FramePath 100 DSU/CSU contain probes that measure network transit delays, lost frames and congestion.
These are typical factors included in SLAs offered by carriers.
The new Larscom offerings will compete with intelligent frame relay access devices from Visual Networks, Inc. and Paradyne, Inc.
FramePath 64 operates at speeds up to 64K bit/sec and FramePath 100 operates at speeds up to 1.5M bit/sec. Both devices include a modem that can support two customer devices via a dial-up line.
They also come with an ISDN option to replace the frame relay link if it fails. FramePath 64 supports a single Basic Rate Interface (BRI) ISDN line, and FramePath 100 supports four.
FramePath 64 frame relay DSU costs $1,495, and $2,095 with single BRI ISDN option. FramePath 100 costs $2,795, and $4,595 with four BRI ISDN adapters. All units include internal modems and can be rack mounted. They are available now.
