Compaq Computer Corp. said it is cutting the prices on some models in its ProLiant and ProSignia server lines in the U.S. by up to 14%.
The PC maker said the price cuts follow the reduction of channel inventory to a supply of less than four weeks.
The price cuts range from 5% on the ProSignia 200-SB, a 233MHz Pentium II-based server, to 14 percent on the 350MHz Pentium II-based ProLiant 800 and the 400MHz Pentium II-based ProLiant 1600 servers.
The ProSignia 200-SB now sells for $4,145, down from $4,373, the ProLiant 800 is now priced at $2,869, down from $3,317, and the ProLiant 1600 now selling for $5,836, down from $6,774.
Compaq also reduced the price of some hard drives by up to 33% and memory options by as much as 43%.
