Hughes Network Systems and Apollo Group today announced they are forming a new distance learning service provider company.
The new company will offer business users and consumers distance learning services that will run over Hughes Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) satellite network. Apollo will provide access to higher education programs, certification and training from the University of Phoenix, Institute for Professional Development, College for Financial Planning and Western International University.
The first order of business for the newly formed company is to acquire One Touch Systems, a San Jose, Calif.-based interactive distance learning software company. Some of One Touch's current customers include Ford, Hewlett-Packard, J.C. Penney, Oracle, 3M and Prudential Insurance.
The Hughes and Apollo venture will baptize the new company One Touch Systems, borrowing from its first acquired company.
This distance learning company plans on offering a one-stop distance learning services shop for business users. Services are slated for availability by the end of next month, once the new company is up in running.
Service details and pricing are also expected next month. The financial terms of the agreements were not available.
