Microsoft Corp. today said it has acquired Valence Research Inc., a maker of TCP/IP load-balancing and fault tolerance software for Microsoft's Windows NT operating system.
The terms of the purchase were not immediately available.
Beaverton, Oregon-based Valence Research is the maker of Convoy Cluster Software, which is designed to increase the scalability and fault tolerance of Windows NT products, including outbound SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) mail service in Microsoft Exchange Server and Microsoft Proxy Server, according to a statement from Microsoft.
Convoy Cluster Software will be renamed Microsoft Windows NT Load Balancing Service and will complement the features already offered by the clustering subsystem in Windows NT Server Enterprise Edition, the statement said. Microsoft plans to make the newly named software a standard component of Windows NT Server Enterprise Edition, and pricing and ordering information will be announced later this year, it said.
