Research Triangle Park, N.C. - IBM's Networking Hardware Division (NHD) now has a new boss - the tough talking Jim Pertzborn. Pertzborn will be taking over for acting general manager James Vanderslice, head of the newly formed IBM Data Technology Group, of which NHD was recently made a part.
Pertzborn has been with IBM for 25 years, most recently as vice president of servers and workstation development. In his tenure with Big Blue, Pertzborn has handled management and development positions for the IBM System/38, AS/400, RS/6000, S/390 and Network Computer units.
Pertzborn says he sees a "tremendous opportunity" with NHD, a division tightly connected with IBM's overall Internet strategy. He intends to see NHD become a technology and market leader. The future of NHD is going to "get brighter and brighter."
IBM also announced that Vanderslice was being promoted to senior vice president, and being made a member of the IBM corporte executive committee - a good sign for NHD, according to sources.
The IBM technology group over which Vanderslice presides includes: storage, microelectronics, and printing.
