Atlanta - Packeteer today announced at NetWorld+Interop that it is adding application response time management (RTM) features to its PacketShaper bandwidth management devices.

Packeteer's RTM will allow business users to measure the performance of any TCP applications running on their networks.

Today, most users have to purchase RTM software separately, says Jeff Barker, product manager at Packeteer. By integrating RTM software into PacketShaper, users will be able to determine if an application is performing poorly and allocate more bandwidth to it on the fly, he explains.

PacketShaper bandwidth management devices allow users to carve out chunks of their Internet bandwidth using TCP rate control policies. RTM now allows users to fix a bottleneck in their network before it becomes a large problem.

The RTM software upgrade will be available to all PacketShaper customers that have service contracts with the company at no extra charge. RTM is slated for availability in January, when it will begin shipping on all PacketShaper products.
