Microsoft Corp. will go for the jugular this afternoon when it posts the Java licensing contract it signed with Sun Microsystems, Inc.
The contract will prove that Microsoft did not violate its agreement with Sun regarding Java compatibility in Internet Explorer 4.0, according to Microsoft.
According to Sun's lawsuit, which was filed Oct. 6, the latest version of Explorer is not fully compatible with Sun's Java Development Kit 1.1. Microsoft had swapped Windows class libraries into its Java development kit and then labeled them as Java components - and refused to fix that, according to Sun CEO Scott McNealy. He said Microsoft is deceptively labeling Internet Explorer 4.0 as Java compatible, even though it failed compatibility tests.
Microsoft also will respond to Sun's additional claims in a FAQ that will be posted with the agreement.
