Even IBM is getting into Linux. Big Blue, which has its own Unix flavor in AIX, recently announced plans to develop Linux versions of its Internet communications and terminal-emulation software.
Later this quarter IBM will begin beta tests of its On-Demand Server for Linux, a server based management tool which handles access privileges to host resources for users, workgroups and devices across various platforms.
The IBM eNetwork Software Division announced Linux support for its Host On-Demand line of terminal emulators. Using any Web browser, users can securely access data and applications off a Linux host. The product is available now.
IBM will work with distributors Caldera Systems, Pacific HiTech and Red Hat Software to deliver Linux applications. Among the products that have been ported to the open-source operating system are components of the WebSphere suite that allow users to do things such as HTML publishing and online transactions.
