LAS VEGAS -- AT&T yesterday announced at Networld+Interop that it's beefing up its IP security offerings with intrusion detection and managed firewall services.
The AT&T Managed Intrusion Detection Service monitors network traffic. It has specific keystrokes within packets and alerts administrators in AT&T's Global Client Support Center of any unauthorized or suspicious activity.
AT&T is using both Cisco NetRanger 2.2 and Internet Security Systems RealSecure intrusion-detection software. While the service is very similar to an IBM Global Services offering launched last year, AT&T says its service is not at all related to the IBM service.
AT&T also announced its Managed Router Based Firewall Service. This service is for business users who need less than 1.544M bit/sec worth of dedicated Internet access bandwidth, says Bruce Jackson, vice president of global offering management and marketing at AT&T. The service includes dedicated access with a Cisco router and firewall.
The final IP security service is AT&T's Network Based Firewall service targeted at frame relay customers. "This is an answer to frame relay customers requesting us to give them Internet access without lots of additional equipment," Jackson says.
These three new services will not be available until sometime in the third quarter. AT&T did not offer any pricing information. The service upgrades include URL screening, enhanced security reporting and firewall-based dial virtual private networks using CheckPoint's VPN1 SecuRemote technology.
