Communications software maker Trillium Digital Systems yesterday became the first company to receive an equity investment from the newly created Intel Communications Fund.
Intel did not reveal the size of the investment. The company would only say that the Communications Fund, which it manages and funds internally, was designed to make minority equity investments typically below $10 million.
Trillium will optimize and port its software for telephony, the Internet, wireless and broadband networks to Intel's recently announced network processor and Internet Exchange Architecture, Intel says.
The chip giant established the $200 million Intel Communications Fund as part of its drive into the networking-device market.
