Network software vendor Novell yesterday matched Wall Street expectations for its first fiscal quarter by posting earnings of $45 million, up 55% from $29 million in the same quarter last year.
For the quarter ending Jan. 31, Novell reported revenue of $316 million, up 11% from $286 million from the same quarter last year.
Earnings for the quarter on a diluted basis were 13 cents per share, equaling the consensus predictions of nine brokers polled by First Call/Thomson Financial.
Directory-enabled NetWare server software revenue totaled $154 million, up 6% from the first quarter of 1999. Directory-enabled Net services applications revenue was $80 million, up 10% from the year-before period. Service, training and consulting revenue reached $50 million, a 37% increase from the same quarter last year. Revenue from older, predirectory products reached $32 million, an increase of 4%.
Geographically, U.S. revenue was $166 million, up 6% from the year-before period. Revenue in Europe, the Middle East and Africa totaled $99 million, up 6%. Asia-Pacific region revenue was $27 million, up 22%. Revenue in the Americas outside the U.S. was $25 million, up 72%.
