Today's breaking news
Send to a friendFeedback

Novell yesterday announced that it has launched its own instant messaging software, Instantme, for the e-commerce business-to-business user. Novell made the announcement at its BrainShare user conference in Salt Lake City.

Novell and AOL partnered on the project, making the Instantme software compatible with AOL's Instant Messaging program so that Novell instant messaging users have access to AOL's Buddy List Network, Novell said.

Though Instantme is available to download for free, Novell also plans to release a secure version of the program, integrating encryption and digital certificates, by the end of the second quarter, the company said.

The program runs on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT and Windows 2000 platforms and works with Novell products NDS eDirectory and the online business contact directory Digitalme, Novell said.

Novell, in Provo, Utah, can be reached at www.novell.com/. AOL, in Dulles, Va., can be reached at 703-448-8700 or www.aol.com/.
