Enterasys Networks, the enterprise spinoff of Cabletron Systems, this week announced two Gigabit Ethernet products designed to increase the port density and reduce the per port cost of the company's switches.
The products include a six-port fiber-based Gigabit Ethernet module for the Enterasys SmartSwitch 6000 backbone device and two copper-based Gigabit Ethernet modules for uplink and backbone applications.
The fiber-based module for the 6000 is called the 6G306-06. It supports multimode and single mode fiber via interchangeable modular interfaces.
The two copper-based modules are called the VHSIM-G02 and the SSR-GTX32-02. The VHSIM-G02 resides in Enterasys' range of SmartSwitch products and features two RJ-45 connectors. The VHSIM-G02 will enable customers without fiber in their wiring plant to take advantage of high-performance connectivity for server or backbone connections, Enterasys says.
The SSR-GTX32-02 resides in Enterasys' SmartSwitch Router 8000 and 8600 chassis. It sports two RJ-45 1000 Base-T ports and is designed for high-speed collapsed backbones and server-farm environments.
The 6G306-06 is priced at $9,995 and will be available on April 3. The VHSIM-G02
is priced at $2,495 and the SSR-GTX32-02 costs $3,495. Both products will be available April 15.
