Motive Communications Tuesday announced that Compaq, Dell and Hewlett-Packard have agreed to offer the Austin start-up's new software that provides automated technical service and support to corporate users.
Called MotiveNet Server, the new software will enable vendors to offer branded, customized services to corporate IT help desks, as well as allowing businesses to design their own internal electronic services for solving hardware and software problems, Motive says.
Financial terms of the agreements with Compaq, Dell and HP were not disclosed.
The software can be used to create a three-tier, automated e-service network that connects end users with corporate help desks and key service providers or vendors such as Compaq, Dell and HP, Motive says.
Users access the service network through a button on their computer screen, which takes them directly to a self-service portal. The Motive technology also monitors what is happening on the computer and is able to automatically gather and deliver information and possible solutions to user problems or inquiries, Motive says.
Separately, Motive also announced that it has been working with Microsoft and others on the support automation capabilities of the forthcoming Windows Millennium Edition operating system. Windows ME will feature technologies that enable support services to PC end users to be delivered via the Internet, Motive says.
