Compaq says it will, within 30 days, ship ProLiant server models powered by Intel's new 933MHz processors.

The new two-way ProLiant servers will feature up to two 933MHz Pentium III or Pentium III Xeon processors, Compaq said in a statement. Xeon is an iteration of the Pentium III designed especially for use in servers and workstations.

Several PC vendors, including Compaq, Dell and IBM, say they will use the 933MHz Pentium III processor in desktop PCs.

The 933MHz Pentium III processor is priced at $744, and the Xeon version is $794, in 1,000-unit quantities, Intel said in a separate statement.

Compaq, in Houston, can be reached at 281-370-0670, or at www.compaq.com/.
