Finnish mobile telecommunications giant Nokia will integrate its Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) server into Lotus' Domino Web server, enabling wireless devices to link with corporate intranets, the companies announced Friday.
Using the Nokia WAP server and the Domino WAP connector, content from Domino databases is translated into Wireless Markup Language to create a personally configured portal that can be delivered on a wireless device, Nokia said in a statement. The Domino WAP connector, Everyplace, can put any Domino intranet application onto the WAP portal. In addition to the portal, the service will offer authentication to a Domino server and customized menus, as well as access to Domino e-mail, calendar, to-do lists and corporate directories on the wireless device. This will be the first in a series of joint ventures between the two companies, as wireless access becomes more commonplace for corporations, according to the statement.
