Intel and Excalibur Technologies Monday announced that they have chosen the name Convera Corp. for their joint venture interactive media services company.

Convera was created in May to provide a way for the owners of newsclips, sports highlights and other multimedia content to deliver it securely to subscribers over IP networks.

Intel and Excalibur proposed Ronald J. Whittier as chairman and CEO of Convera, and Patrick C. Condo, as president and chief operating officer, the two companies said in a statement. Whittier is currently senior vice president at Intel, and Condo is president and CEO of Excalibur.

In addition to Whittier and Condo, they designated three other directors of the Convera board: Gerhard H. Parker, executive vice president at Intel, Andrew D. Bryant, senior vice president at Intel and Herbert A. Allen, president and CEO of Allen & Company. Convera expects to name two additional outside directors.

Intel, in Santa Clara, can be reached at 408-987-8080, or at www.intel.com/. Excalibur, in Vienna, Va., can be reached at 703-761-3700 or at www.excalib.com/.
