Dallas competitive local exchange carrier Allegiance Telecom this week purchased the remains of former DSL provider HarvardNet.

Medford, Mass., HarvardNet, which offered DSL service in Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic states, left the DSL business earlier this year, but had continued operating as a Web hosting and managed services company. HarvardNet will now become part of Allegiance's Advanced Web Hosting division.

Allegiance sells a suite of local, long-distance, high-speed data and Internet services to businesses in 28 markets across the U.S.
