Aelita Software Tuesday added two new products to its line of migration and management software for the Windows and Exchange platforms.

At Microsoft's annual Tech-Ed conference in Atlanta, Aelita unveiled its Enterprise Directory Manager for Windows 2000 and NT, and its Exchange Migration Wizard.

Enterprise Directory Manager is a client/server application that allows IT executives to delegate user and resource administration in Active Directory. It augments the native delegation capabilities of the directory by providing a rules-based engine for assigning administrative privileges.

The software includes a feature called Managed Units, which allows administrators to be grouped and assigned tasks, regardless of the organizational structure of the directory.

It also includes a policy enforcement engine to ensure the integrity and consistency of changes made to the directory, and a workflow engine for automating tasks using custom scripts.

"Another major benefit is that you can administer multiple [directory] forests in a single view," Aelita CEO Ratmir Timashev says.

The company also introduced co-existence tools that help enterprises bridge the gap between Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2000. The Exchange Migration Wizard allows enterprises to consolidate and migrate users in one step, without disrupting their access to Exchange data. The software uses synchronization tools to continually update a user's Exchange 5.5 directory, mailbox, calendar and public folder until all the information is migrated to Exchange 2000. At that point, the user can be disconnected from 5.5 and activated on Exchange 2000.

"Our Domain Migrator tool moved user information to Exchange 2000," says Ed Galvin, product manager for Aelita. "Now, this tool completes that process by moving the mailbox." Galvin says the tool can reduce the time it takes for a migration from two years to no more than six months.

The wizard includes the ability to schedule unattended and automated data movement. It also has project management workflow, migration planning, reporting tools and progress tracking with alerts and notifications.

Both the Exchange Migration Wizard and the Enterprise Directory Manager are expected to ship this fall. Pricing was not announced.
