Via Technologies Wednesday announced that a U.S. company, Rauch Medien, is offering lower power Web servers based on its C3 microprocessor.

Rauch Medien's GreenServ Web servers, which are based on the C3 processor and Flash RAM, draw less than 30 watts of power, Via said in a statement. The company claims the lower power Web servers can reduce server-related energy costs by up to 75%.

The GreenServ Web server, which is priced starting from $1,368, currently ships with a 750 MHz C3 processor. A version based on the 800 MHz C3 is expected to be available during the third quarter of this year, and a 1 GHz-based version will ship before the end of the year, according to Via.

The GreenServ comes with up to 60G bytes of hard-disk space and up to 1G byte of RAM, and comes installed with Linux, Free BSD or Windows 2000.
