  • AIT Global, an association of IT professionals, is looking for IT help to assist businesses that had offices in the World Trade Center and other downtown buildings.   • Sites to make online donations

    Disaster recovery help for affected business

  • Telseon will make free bandwidth available to any company that has lost its telecommunications links as a result of this disaster. For more information call (888) 842-6272.

  • United Messaging is offering free, temporary Internet and POP3 e-mail services to all businesses of The World Trade Center. The company will establish and/or transfer e-mail accounts to support an orderly restoration of corporate messaging communications. Companies should contact United Messaging at (866) 601-1673 or messagingexperts@unitedmessaging.com.

  • Storage vendors Overland, Sony, ADIC, Exabyte, ATL, Qualstar, Imation, Veritas, Computer Associates and Legato have established a 24-hour toll-free hot line at (800) 859-8559 and a Web site to assist and offer data recovery support to affected companies.

  • CrossHair Communications is offering free help with information security, Web development, and extranet communications services for companies affected by the attacks. E-mail Russ Dooman at russ@xhair.com.

  • DataPeer will provide datacenter space free of charge for a period of time to help companies resume, rebuild and maintain their IT infrastructure. Call (866) 668-3328 or e-mail recovery@datapeer.com

  • Microsoft NYC and Mi8 are offering free messaging services to companies affected by the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and to non-profit and government organizations involved in the relief efforts.   • Internap Network Services is making its corporate videoconferencing resources available free to travel-restricted companies until Sept. 28 in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, McLean, Va., Atlanta, Miami, Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Denver, San Francisco, San Jose, Los Angeles, Irvine, Calif., Seattle, London, Amsterdam and Tokyo.   • OpenReach will donate secure VPN communications services to affected New York businesses to connect temporary offices, displaced workers and recovery data centers. E-mail helpnyc@openreach.com.

  • NetSolve (a remote network management company based in Austin, Texas) is offering to manage, at no charge, the networks of affected companies. NetSolve will donate remote 24/7 network infrastructure operations support including fault, configuration, and performance management for devices supported by its ProWatch for WANs, LANs, and Security services.   • Fluke Networks has set up an emergency-relief program to provide loaner equipment, technical expertise and on-site assistance to companies affected by the attack. E-mail info@flukenetworks.com.

  • Interloci Network Management is offering up to 60 days of free network security and management services to organizations affected by last week's attacks. Contact Chris Ledwith at (203) 622-4673 or cledwith@interloci.com.

  • NTT Communications and Verio have created an emergency response program to assist any company whose data communications services have been affected by this disaster. E-mail emergencyresponseteam@verio.net or call toll free, 1-888-780-9070, Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET.

  • CosmoCom will provide its all-IP contact center software, CosmoCall Universe, free to organizations needing to rapidly replace mission critical call center functions and/or deploy support hotlines associated with this tragedy.   • Yipes Communications is offering an array of free Internet or MAN services to displaced New York City businesses. Companies seeking assistance should contact Yipes at (866) 499-4737.

  • Greenwich Technology Partners is offering data center space, facilities and engineering assistance to companies affected by the New York attacks. Areas of assistance include: logistics and project management; vendor and supplier interaction; infrastructure deployment and rollout; and security reviews and audits.Firms seeking our support should contact Marc Fischer, Manager, Affiliates, at 914-289-8287 or mfischer@greenwichtech.com.

  • 3rd Millennium Management, a communications, finance and business development consultancy in Wayne, N.J., is offering free communications assistance to businesses impacted by the attacks, including contacting employees and their families; developing crisis communications and contingency action plans; and reaching out to customers, clients and investors.   • Computer Associates has offered to assist New York businesses, on a pro-bono basis, with the restoration of data and computing services. Call (800) 645-3042 or click here.

  • Videoconferencing vendor PictureTel is donating use of its videoconferencing facilities around the world for those affected to communicate with family members or as an aid in the business crisis planning process. The company also is asking business partners and customers to contribute to a central reference site where individuals, organizations, and businesses can find information about locations where they can use existing videoconferencing rooms. The lists of sites is posted at PictureTel's site under the tab "Video Relief." The company also will lend videoconferencing equipment, including technical support, to emergency management organizations, hospitals, and humanitarian relief groups to support telemedicine and relief coordination.

    This Web site has a ton of information about prevention and reaction to disasters. From figuring out plans ahead of time to reacting quickly and intelligently, FEMA has laid out some pretty useful resources.

    Ironically, the Disaster Recovery Journal, as of press time, was still planning to have their membership meeting. This site has amazing resources, including a magazine, chat rooms, forums and more. Seems like a one-stop-shop to figure out all your disaster prevention and recovery needs.
