Metropolitan Ethernet provider Yipes Communications laid off an undisclosed number of employees this week, but the company's CEO says the job cuts would have no effect on Yipes' operations.
"All of our markets are intact," says Jerry Parrick. "All our customers are still getting the same services they were getting before."
Yipes cut supervisory and headquarters staff in some of its markets, Parrick says, in response to the widespread slowdown in telecom spending.
"We're just adjusting the business to changing conditions," he explains. "We're in as great a shape as we've ever been."
Parrick declined to specify the number of layoffs, saying only that it was not substantial.
"I'm glad we're a private company, because it means we don't have to disclose that information," he says. "I'm sure our competitors would be dying to find out."
Parrick says the company is in no financial trouble. In fact, he says Yipes grew its customer base by 55% in Q3.
