Resonate this week will introduce the latest offering from its management software portfolio, which the company says can help network managers rapidly determine the source of problems in Web applications and test how those applications perform from an end-user perspective.

Resonate will debut its software, Commander 2.1, at Networld+Interop and Comdex Atlanta 2002 here this week. The new version of the software includes a service model, which enables root-cause analysis. The service model provides network operators with a logical view of end users and the application and network components upon which those users depend.

Network operators define their desired end-user service levels and the software can correlate that data with the health and performance of application components. This feature allows network managers to prioritize tasks based on who and what will be affected.

The software also now includes testing capabilities that can help network managers spot failures in multi-URL transactions. The multi-URL transaction feature will help network operators break down a service to each transaction and determine exactly where a problem occurred, Resonate says. Also new is the ability to identify potential problems on FTP, DNS, IMAP, POP3 and SMTP traffic.

Other new features include a wizard for transaction test construction and enhanced HTTP transaction support. The company says the new features help network administrators more quickly identify the cause of application performance problems before any failures can impact end users. Also new in this version are enhanced corrective actions, and more sorting and searching capabilities among events in the infrastructure.

Commander includes a policy engine that runs on a dedicated server, plus agents that are installed throughout a network. It also features modules that plug into specific operating systems and applications. All reports and alarms are accessible via a Web browser.

Resonate Commander 2.1 will be available in mid-September. Pricing begins at $50,000.
