  • Broadwing Communications is cutting 25% of its staff - 500 employees - in an effort to reduce expenses. The company says it will reduce overall costs by 25% over the next six months through layoffs, network grooming and optimization, renegotiating rates and exiting the wholesale, international voice service business. The service provider made this announcement last week when it revealed its third-quarter earnings.
  • NTT/Verio, which began an enterprise push last spring, is taking things a step further with a new hosting platform designed to give companies a simpler way to build out their infrastructure. The NTT/Verio PowerPlatform includes four elements: hosting, managed services, support and a new portal that gives customers real-time access into the performance of their hosted systems. PowerPlatform Hosting includes RapidRollout for smaller customers; collocation services; and Modular Hosting, for larger businesses. Modular Hosting lets companies design infrastructures that best meet their needs.
