The Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards last week formed a technical committee to increase awareness about the use of public-key infrastructure for Web services and other applications. PKI, which has
shown much promise but garnered little corporate adoption because of its complexity, enables secure electronic transactions
based on digital certificates. The new technical committee will operate within the PKI Member Section, and focus on delivering
white papers, implementation guidelines and conformance tests.
Application Security announced a version of its AppDetective security-vulnerability assessment scanner for the IBM database. AppDetective for
IBM DB2, similar to versions of the product available for Lotus Domino, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and Sybase, will locate,
examine, report and help fix security holes and misconfigurations in DB2 databases. The pricing starts at $1,300 per database.
PeopleSoft rang in the new year by releasing an array of promised employee-management applications, including a number of new modules
in its Human Resources Management Suite. Now available are PeopleSoft ePerformance, a tool for tracking employees' progress
in meeting established goals; PeopleSoft HelpDesk for Human Resources, intended to aid in resolving HR issues; and PeopleSoft
Mobile Time Management, a timesheet application tailored for remote use. PeopleSoft's HRMS portfolio is a subset of its broadening
Human Capital Management product line. That line includes two new products: PeopleSoft's Enterprise Learning Management training-tracking
software and Sales Incentive Management application, which streamlines the process of designing and fulfilling compensation
programs for sales employees. PeopleSoft Enterprise Learning Management and PeopleSoft Sales Incentive Management are available
as stand-alone applications, while the HRMS products all require PeopleSoft's core HRMS software. PeopleSoft declined to disclose
pricing for any of the new applications
