Start-up Rainfinity this week refreshed its appliance that makes the movement and migration of data between storage devices easier.

Called RainStorage, the appliance moves data across the network between network-attached storage (NAS) devices.

RainStorage can be used to load-balance storage between NAS devices, to migrate data from one device to another or to move data from primary to secondary storage without any disruption of operations.

The appliance is contained in a 2U-high enclosure that uses two Intel Xeon processors. It contains either four or eight Gigabit Ethernet interfaces.

RainStorage now supports both the Microsoft Common Information File System (CIFS) and Unix/Linux Network File System (NFS). The majority of NAS appliances use these file systems.

In addition, RainStorage appliances can now be clustered for redundancy.

The RainStorage appliance is available now for $80,000.
