Computer Associates this week updated its Windows-based backup and recovery package, BrightStor ARCserve Backup.

The software - which supports direct-attached and network-attached storage, and storage area networks - has been enhanced to increase backup performance by allowing multiple backup jobs to be written to the same tape media simultaneously. Further, it allows disk-to-disk-to-tape staging for users implementing an information lifecycle management hierarchy.

In addition, BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11 has a Microsoft Exchange agent that facilitates the backup and restoration of Exchange e-mail systems. It also supports Microsoft’s Volume Shadow Copy Services, to create snapshot copies of open volumes and application data sets.

The software now also is integrated with BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops and Desktops and with CA’s storage resource management, server replication and Unicenter framework management software.

Other new features include: support for Windows Storage Server 2003, support for Write Once Read Many devices and a new tutorial for non-technical users.

BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11 for Windows and BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops & Desktops r11 are available now. BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11 for Windows starts at $775, and BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops & Desktops r11 starts at $495.
