Eric Benhamou will resign as chairman of PalmSource on Oct. 28, the company announced Friday. The company said it expects he will continue in his role as chairman of sister company PalmOne.
PalmSource was spun out of PDA maker Palm in October last year, separating development of the Palm OS and the devices using it.
With the two companies now firmly established as distinct entities since their separation, it is time for their boards to become more independent, Benhamou said according to the PalmSource statement. His resignation will take effect after PalmSource's Oct. 28. stockholders' meeting, according to the statement.
One other change to the PalmSource board of directors is in store, the company said: Satjiv S. Chahil, former chief marketing officer of Palm Inc. will not stand for re-election, but will remain as an advisor to the company.
