Network management vendor Opnet Technologies last week announced it had acquired Altaworks, a maker of application performance management software, for about $3.5 million in cash.

Bethesda, Md.-based Opnet, which offers network (IT Guru) and configuration management (NetDoctor) tools, will round out its products with Altaworks application performance analysis and correlation software. Altaworks, of Nashua, N.H., will remain a wholly owned subsidiary of Opnet.

Opnet acquired all assets of the company, including two commercially available software products: Panorama and Commander. Altaworks acquired Commander when it purchased the technology from Resonate last fall.

"Our customers rely on networked applications to operate their organizations effectively. Preventing and troubleshooting application performance problems are among the most challenging issues they face," said Alain Cohen, Opnet president and CTO, in a statement.

Altaworks technology will be integrated into Opnet products in the coming months.
