Iomega Friday introduced a new network-attached storage appliance for Windows networks in small and midsized businesses.
The Iomega NAS 400r incorporates Serial ATA drives and uses Microsoft’s Windows Storage Server 2003 technology. It comes in several models and scales to a 1.6T-byte capacity.
The drives in the NAS 400r are hot-swappable and are available in 640G-byte, 1T-byte and 1.6T-byte capacities. They support RAID levels 0, 1 and 5 for data protection. Dual Gigabit Ethernet connections to the network are incorporated as is a high-speed Ultra SCSI 320 port for backup purposes.
The NAS 400r uses the Intel Pentium 4 HT for performance. All models also support Microsoft’s Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS), which lets IT managers set up point-in-time backups and which users can use to recover data without an administrator’s help.
The NAS 400r servers also ship with Iomega’s Automatic Backup software and Computer Associates eTrust Antivirus software, which provides continuous virus protection. They also have print server capability.
The 640G-byte 400r is $4,500; the 1T-byte 400r is $6,000; and the 1.6T-byte 400r is $7,500. All models are available now.
