Logitech on Wednesday announced that it will display the Harmony 880, its new universal remote control, at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The show officially kicks off on Thursday.

The Harmony 880 gives users a single remote control that can be used with a variety of home entertainment systems. It can be used with high-definition television sets and personal video recorders, in addition to controlling other devices like DVD players, televisions, stereo systems and videos.

Like previous models, the Harmony 880 remote has a bottleneck design. A color LCD touch-screen display on the remote control helps navigate the main remote options, which are shown as color icons with text. Background images for the screen can be downloaded from the Internet.

The Harmony's "Smart State Technology" allows it to conduct multiple operations, like powering up a video recorder and television simultaneously, with the push of one button.

The remote has a USB port, which allows it to connect to a PC and download device programming information and background images off the Internet. Logitech has an on-line database containing information about thousands of remote-controlled devices.

The remote control comes with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and will be available in glossy black and brushed grey finishes. The $249.95 device will be available in the U.S. in June, and in Europe in May, the company said.
