Preventsys, an enterprise security management provider, and iDefense, a security intelligence firm, have launched the iDefense Threat Manager. The appliance-based solution automatically matches iDefense's early warning intelligence with Preventsys' network assessment solution to pinpoint assets at risk and recommend proactive steps to prevent damage. The two companies announced the new product at this week's RSA Conference in San Francisco.

The iDefense Threat Manager automates the process of applying new security intelligence data to implement countermeasures on their networks. That gives IT departments an efficient way to manage vulnerability and threat information with a dashboard with alerts that apply directly to their networks, said John Watters, president and CEO of iDefense. "Companies have to have the latest information to combat the threats out there, and that's what we provide. Then they have to quickly apply that intelligence, and that is what this provides," he said.

"Manually matching assets to threats is time-consuming, can be inaccurate, and demands the attention of already overburdened security experts," said Ray Komar, vice president of business development at Preventsys. "This system will help customers apply their constrained security resources to resolving security issues by removing the burden from time-consuming analysis," he said.

Current iDefense customers can install the system to augment their current iAlert e-mail subscription, automating the process of comparing text data to asset information.

Remediation tasks can be automatically assigned, ensuring rapid protection and eliminating the need to track pending fixes in cumbersome spreadsheets. The iDefense Threat Manager also stores all historical threat information in a searchable database.

Available now, the iDefense Threat Manager starts at $100,000 for a one-year subscription and can be purchased directly through iDefense.
