Tellabs has expanded its 8800 series of multiservice routers with a smaller, lower cost model. The Tellabs 8830 is designed
to lower market-entry costs to meet demands for VoIP and next-generation applications, such as video on demand or wireless/wireline
convergence. The Tellabs 8830 MSR also offers service interworking among Layer 2 and Layer 3 services, deterministic QoS controls
and continuous system availability during software upgrades. Tellabs obtained the 8800 line of IP/Multi-protocol Label Switching
multiservice routers via 2003's acquisition of Vivace Networks Tellabs declined to provide pricing for the 8830. It will be
available in the third quarter.
