This week, and in the coming months, Radware is expected to launch a collection of products aimed at helping users handle all aspects of higher-level network services, including application acceleration, security, WAN optimization and traffic-processing offload.

Under its new APSolute product family designation, Radware is launching appliances and switches that users could install to help speed applications running across the Web and WAN links, as well as gear that can load-balance and protect data center servers. Equipment that allows for faster inspection and processing of traffic through several layers of security gear is also on tap, as well as software for managing all these services from one place.

New products in Radware's APSolute product line include:

AppDirector: a Layer 4-7 switching appliance aimed at data centers that handles load balancing and application switching at Layer 7. The box is deployed in front of servers, or other devices such as firewalls or intrusion-detection system (IDS)/intrusion-prevention system (IPS) devices. It can be used to set traffic-handling policies for specific applications based on TCP/IP, HTTP, XML, Financial Information Exchange and other protocols.

AppXcel: an application front-end device that speeds processes such as SSL encryption, as well as bandwidth management and compression.

SecureFlow: a switch that ties together third-party security boxes (firewalls, IDS, anti-spam and virus, and others) and directs traffic to devices. Radware says this improves network performance in businesses that may deploy several in-line security boxes, because certain packet flows can be sent to a particular inspection device.

Radware's DefensePro (an IPS and denial-of-service protection appliance) and LinkProof (a remote access/WAN optimization box) are also being wrapped into the new APSolute product family.

Each product in the APSolute suite runs on common hardware running Radware's SynAPS operating system, which includes Layer 4-7 traffic routing, packet inspection, security and other features. Licensing keys are used to activate a box for certain product features, such as AppDirector and AppXcel.

A variety of hardware configurations are available for running each platform, including 12- and 24-port 10/100/1000M bit/sec Ethernet connections. 10G Ethernet also is available as an option on some products such as DefensePro.

APSolute Insite, a new software tool, is also being introduced. The company says this software lets users manage and configure SynAPS-based hardware running in a network. The application can push policies for handling certain traffic types down to devices and update security products on attack signatures and patterns. The software also provides alerts and views monitoring the status of Radware gear.

The product push from Radware is a sign that the company is refocusing on the markets in application acceleration and traffic optimization after a few years when its main concern was on security, one analyst says.
