The FBI warned the public this week not to be fooled by a new e-mail scheme in which messages tell recipients their Internet use is being watched by the FBI.
The e-mail messages try to get recipients to open an attachment and answer questions. The FBI did not say whether the attachments have been shown to contain viruses or other threats, but said it is investigating the matter.
"Recipients of this or similar solicitations should know that the FBI does not engage in the practice of sending unsolicited e-mails to the public in this manner," says a statement on the FBI Web site.
If you receive such a message, contact the Internet Crime Complaint Center.
