  • Start-up 3Par announced last week that 500GB drives are available for its InServ storage array. The drives, which have an embedded Fibre Channel interface, can reside in the same enclosure as InServ's Fibre Channel disk drives, providing tiered storage. The drives start at $1,750.
  • VMware last week released VMware Player, free software that enables users to run, assess and share programs in a virtual machine on a PC running Windows operating system or Linux. VMware also announced it has partnered with Mozilla on another free product, Browser Appliance, a virtual machine powered by Mozilla's Firefox Web browser. Both moves are part of VMware's ongoing efforts to proliferate use of its software as well as build more of a user community and third-party vendor community around its virtualization offerings. VMware will shortly make both VMware Player and Browser Appliance available for download (currently, only beta versions are available on this page).
