Start-up Centeris last week released Version 1.0 of its multicomponent Likewise Management Suite software. A systems administrator who installs Likewise Console on Windows machines and remotely installs Likewise Agent on Linux servers can use Likewise Console to configure Linux server roles and join them to Microsoft's Active Directory. This lets the administrator manage and monitor Linux servers through Likewise Console and Microsoft Management Console. Centeris also plans to increase the services Likewise can manage from the current three: file, print and Web services. The company says it will most likely expand the software's management capabilities to include Apache and other LAMP components. A Likewise Management Suite perpetual license and upgrades costs $350 per server managed.

Oracle last week released its quarterly security software update, which addresses 37 vulnerabilities in the company's database software, as well as a large number of bugs in Oracle's Application Server, Collaboration Suite and E-Business Suite, and PeopleSoft and J.D. Edwards software. Oracle did not release technical details about the patches.
