Multiservice edge switch maker Hammerhead Systems this week said it closed $30 million in Series C funding, led by new investors Silver Creek Ventures and Apex Venture Partners.

The other existing investors that participated in the round brings the total equity raised to $80 million. The funds will be used to expand sales, marketing and customer support in North America and internationally, as well as accelerate product development and establish volume manufacturing.

Silver Creek and Apex have also joined the Hammerhead board.

Privately held Hammerhead was founded in 2002. The company's HSX 6000 switch is designed to aggregate legacy and next-generation Layer 2 services using MPLS Pseudowire technology.

Hammerhead has a strategic partnership with Fujitsu Network Communications in North America for distribution, joint marketing, product planning, and customer support and services.
